Efficiency

Carrier is an ENERGY STAR® partner.

Because heat pumps provide both heating & cooling, their efficiency is measured with two distinct ratings. While in the cooling mode, heat pumps receive a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER number. SEER is like gas mileage. The higher the gas mileage or SEER, the more efficient the automobile or a/c system is. Carrier heat pumps rate between 13.0 and 19.0 SEER.

While in heating mode, heat pumps also receive a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor or HSPF rating. Again, the high the number, the more efficiency the systems works. New Carrier units rate between 7.7 and 9.0 HSPF.
